Theres Boqvist
by Bruce Millet
What is MySpace.com good for you ask?
Meeting hot Texas Chainsaw Massacre-worshipping artists like Theres Boqvist, that's what!
Her story and a selection of her artwork are below. You can also check out her website at...

GASPetc:
At what age did you start drawing?
Theres Boqvist: I started drawing at age 4.
GASPetc: Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
TB: I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and now I live in Sweden.
GASPetc: Did you take any art classes at school?
TB: Not really. I'm self taught, even in airbrush.
GASPetc: Why do you use Leatherface in your art so often?
TB: First of all I'm a big fan of horror, especially The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Leatherface is my favorite movie killer by far. Bubba has become my icon. I just love the whole idea of the family, meat, bones, skin mask, suit and chainsaw. What an awesome character Gunnar Hansen helped create. I was so fascinated by the storyline and the Sawyers that I started drawing Leatherface and family for my own pleasure, but it suddenly turned bigger than I thought, and that's awesome!
GASPetc: What other horror films do you like?
TB: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, Saw, the Friday the 13th series, Pet Sematary, the Elm Street series, the Halloween series, The Hills Have Eyes, and Scarecrows with my good friend Ted Vernon.
GASPetc:
Is horror very big in Sweden?
TB: Sure, many people like horror here too, but I honestly don't know how big it is. I personally feel it's much bigger in the USA.
GASPetc: Have you created any original characters with your art?
TB: Yes, Johnny John is a freaky cartoon character that I created 1994, and California Colt in 1999. I practically grew up drawing Johnny John, so this character is very close to my heart.
GASPetc:
What other hobbies do you have?
TB: Other hobbies besides art is keeping reptiles. I have eight Boa's and Pythons, and a bunch of lizards at home. I love going to reptile Expos. I also collect things such as bones from dead animals found in the woods, unusual lamps, oh, and the weirdest of `em all, little toilet adornments. Anything to do with a toilet, and I buy it!
GASPetc: Where do you hope your art will take you?
TB: I'm hoping that one day I can make a living selling my art and airbrushing on cars.
GASPetc: How has art helped you in life?
TB: Art has helped me get through troubled times in life. My artwork has been my only escape from reality. I don't honestly know what I would do without it. I feel that it's my key to success in life!
